BB creams, also known as beauty balms or blemish balms, have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their ability to provide multiple benefits in a single product. A good organic and non-toxic BB cream provides lightweight coverage to even out skin tone and conceal minor imperfections such as blemishes and dark spots (so long, under-eye circles!). BB creams can give your skin a radiant look while offering a smooth layer that works well under foundation.
The Problem with Conventional BB Creams
Conventional BB creams sometimes contain harmful or concerning ingredients that can irritate the skin or even cause long-term damage. That’s why the best natural BB creams contain natural, nourishing ingredients such as aloe vera, green tea extract, and hyaluronic acid, which can help soothe and hydrate your skin while providing coverage and protection from the sun.
When shopping for a non-toxic BB cream, it’s important to avoid ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances, which can be harsh and drying on the skin. They have also been linked to various other concerns like hormone disruption and even cancer.
You’ll also want to avoid petroleum-based ingredients (which can trap dirt and clog pores), mica (which may contain heavy metals), and polyethylene and polypropylene (which often contain microplastics).
Other ingredients to look out for are alcohol, which can strip the skin of its natural oils, and silicones, which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. To protect your skin and your health, opt for organic and all natural BB creams that contain clean, plant derived ingredients.
How To Use an Organic BB Cream
Applying an organic BB cream is pretty easy and straightforward. First make sure your face is clean and dry. If you’re going to apply a face lotion or sunscreen, do that first. Then apply a small amount of BB cream with your fingers or a sponge — it’s really up to your personal preference. A little goes a long way!
If you’re using your fingers, take a small amount of BB cream and dot it onto your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Then go ahead and use your fingers to blend the cream outwards towards the edges of your face. If you’re using a brush or a sponge, apply the BB cream to the tool first, then use it to blend the product onto your skin.
Remember to start with a small amount of BB cream and gradually build up coverage as needed. If you are going for a more natural look, you can also mix a small amount of BB cream with your regular face moisturizer or organic eye cream to create a sheer, tinted moisturizer effect.
5 Best Organic and Non-Toxic BB Creams for Healthy Glowing Skin
Here are our favorite organic BB creams, which provide light coverage and help you achieve that dewy look you’re going for without any harsh chemicals.
1. Inika Organic BB Cream ($49)
Inika Organic BB Cream is my personal favorite organic BB cream. It’s made with certified organic and natural ingredients, including aloe vera, jojoba oil, and shea butter, which help nourish the skin while providing lightweight coverage.
The formula is infused with antioxidants, including green tea and pomegranate extract, to protect your skin from environmental stressors and signs of aging (um, yes please!). Inika’s organic BB creams are vegan, cruelty-free, and free from harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances.
They come in five different shades, and their website has a handy tool that helps you pick which shade to get based on other make-up products you use. I can’t recommend Inika’s organic make-ups enough. Besides the BB cream, I also love their concealer and eye shadow.
2. W3LL PEOPLE Bio Tint Multi-Action Moisturizer ($30)
This multi-tasking non-toxic BB cream from W3LL PEOPLE is made with organic ingredients such as aloe vera, green tea, raspberry seed oil, broccoli seed oil, and chamomile, to help soothe and brighten the skin. This organic tinted moisturizer/BB cream from Juice Beauty is made with certified organic ingredients, including antioxidant-rich apple, grape and aloe botanical juices to help brighten and even out skin tone. It also contains SPF 30 to protect the skin from UV damage. It is lightweight and comes in just two tones, sheer and sand, so it doesn’t add much color to your face.
Juice Beauty also makes a fantastic natural CC cream that in my opinion works really well and feels lightweight on the face. It’s vegan, comes in a variety of shades, and offers SPF 30 sun protection.
4. Bee You Organics BB Cream ($24)
This eco-friendly natural BB cream is made with certified organic ingredients including beeswax, shea butter, zinc oxide (for sun protection), and calendula, which help soothe and nourish your skin while providing buildable coverage.
Note that since Bee You’s Organic BB cream is free of iron oxides and micas, it won’t add “color” to your face like conventional makeup. Its organic coloring is more to offset the whiteness of the zinc oxide. Due to this, they recommend going at least a shade darker than you otherwise would.
Mixed with non-nano zinc oxide (22%), this Organic BB Cream will also do double duty by protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays.

Runner-up: Ilia Beauty Super Serum Skin Tint($48)
Ilia Beauty’s tinted serum provides clean coverage and a dewy finish, and is vegan friendly and cruelty-free. The caveat is that this non-toxic BB cream doesn’t use certified organic ingredients like the other ones on this list.
However, it is made cleanly without synthetic fragrances, oil, or silicone from a blend of natural ingredients, including power hydrators shea butter, squalane, aloe leaf juice, and niacinamide.

It comes in a 29 different shades, which can be a bit overwhelming to figure out (luckily, they have a good return policy, as I found out upon ordering a shade that wasn’t quite right). Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint is vegan, cruelty-free, and free from harsh chemicals, making it a good choice for anyone who has sensitive skin.
It’s Time to Make the Switch to Organic BB Cream
It can feel tough to switch from a make-up brand you know works for you to an organic one you haven’t used before. However, in my personal experience, it’s worth at least giving one of these great organic BB creams a try.
They’re free of harsh chemicals and synthetic ingredients you’ll find in traditional products, and you can trust them to be gentle and nourishing for your skin. Plus, they’re effective and provide great lightweight coverage without any toxins.
After all, our skin is porous and readily absorbs the ingredients we put directly on it. We might as well choose ingredients that we know will help our skin look radiant without a side of harsh chemicals.
