By choosing to buy organic kids clothes instead of opting for fast fashion, we not only ensure that our children are wearing high-quality and durable clothes, but also that we’re making a positive impact on the world.

1. Hanna Andersson
Hanna Andersson is one of our favorite eco-friendly kids clothing companies. Their clothes are durable, well made, and feature beautiful styles and prints.
Materials
Hanna Andersson creates gorgeous high-quality clothing for both children and babies. Their dresses and pajamas are especially adorable! They use only high quality materials including organic cotton, sustainably sourced wool, and non-toxic dyes.
They meet OEKO-TEX’s strictest standard of safety and guarantee that all products used throughout production and free of harmful chemicals. Hanna Andersson’s newest initiative is that all of their outerwear and swimwear is now made from recycled materials.
Environment and Sustainability
Hanna Andersson is committed to minimizing their environmental impact by using eco-friendly packaging materials and maintaining recycling programs in their stores. You can read more about their commitment to sustainability practices around farming and organic and recycled cotton on their site.
Their focus on quality materials also means that their clothes are durable and should last you multiple siblings or be passed on to friends and family (reduce, reuse, recycle, kids!). I will say I have noticed a big difference in the longevity of my daughter’s Hannah Anderson dresses than, say, those we bought from Target.
Labor Practices
Hannah Anderson works with partners who regularly audit their factories to ensure compliance with their labor standards. They also provide their workers with fair wages and benefits, including health insurance, and ensure they work in safe and healthy conditions.
3. Pact Kids
Pact Kids is another awesome eco-friendly kids clothing brand (and they make clothes for grown-ups too, moms and dads!) that values sustainability and ethics. If you’re looking for comfortable and sustainable clothes for your kids, Pact Kids is definitely worth checking out.
Materials
Pact Kids uses GOTS certified organic cotton and other sustainable materials to create their clothes in Fair Trade certified factories. Their clothes are soft, breathable, and gentle on your kiddo’s skin.
Environment and Sustainability
Pact Kids’ whole “thing” is their commitment to sustainability, which we love. They prioritize using organic, sustainable materials and minimizing water waste in their production process. They use recycled packaging materials and partner with manufacturers who share their values.
Pact is also carbon neutral- they work with SimpliZero to offset their carbon emissions through reforestation, renewable energy, and other community projects that take carbon out of the atmosphere.
Labor Practices
Pact Kids is another Fair Trade company that promises their clothes are made in safe working conditions. They partner with suppliers who prioritize ethical labor practices and ensure that their workers are paid fair wages and have access to benefits like healthcare.
4. TenTree
Materials
TenTree uses a range of sustainable materials such as organic cotton, Tencel, recycled polyester, and hemp to craft their apparel. Their clothes are not only gentle on the skin but also have a minimal impact on the environment. They prioritize natural dyes to reduce the impact of harmful chemicals on the environment.
Environment and Sustainability
TenTree is also super committed to reducing their impact on the environment through sustainability. They plant ten trees for every item sold to help restore deforested regions, and they also use sustainable packaging materials. They’ve planted over 85 million trees over the last ten years!
Tentree minimizes waste by recycling or reusing fabric scraps, and they use energy-efficient equipment in their production process. They, like Pact, are a carbon neutral company. It’s rare to see these kinds of commitments to the environment from clothing companies, which is just one reason we love TenTree.
TenTree also offers awesome monthly subscriptions of plans to off-set your family’s carbon impact by planting trees around the world.
Labor Practices
TenTree ensures that their clothes are made under fair working conditions. They partner with certified factories that meet strict standards for labor rights, and they also ensure their workers are paid a living wage.
If you’re looking for high-quality clothes that are gentle on the planet and the people who make them, then you need to check out TenTree. With their strong environmental and social values, you can feel good that your purchase is making a positive impact.
5. Patagonia
Materials
Patagonia’s organic kids clothing line uses a range of sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and hemp to create their clothes. Their fabrics are designed to be long-lasting, so you can keep your kid’s clothes for years to come. Plus, they use natural dyes to reduce the impact of harmful chemicals on the environment.
Environment and Sustainability
Patagonia’s kids line, like their beloved adult clothing line, is super committed to sustainability. They use sustainable materials and reduce their environmental impact by recycling and minimizing waste in their clothing production process.
They also have the “Worn Wear” program for both kids and adults that lets you trade in worn Patagonia items and buy them used. Their fleece products are made from recycled soda bottles that get turned into polyester.
Labor Practices
Patagonia’s kids line ensures that their clothes are made under fair working conditions. They partner with factories that meet strict labor standards. Additionally, they support fair trade practices and provide their workers with benefits like healthcare and education.
Patagonia is the gold standard of environmentally friendly, ethical clothing companies. They tend to be more expensive, but you’re supporting an ethical company that gives back to the planet when you buy from them.
6. Jackalo
Jackalo is a mom-owned eco-friendly kids clothing company that had to make this list of sustainable clothing for kids because it creates high quality, reusable children’s clothing with healthy materials and ethically sustainable practices. And super cute patterns to boot!
Materials
Jackalo uses primarily GOTS certified organic cotton and what is known as deadstock fabric – aka overstock, or surplus fabric – in its sustainable kids clothes. The deadstock fabric would otherwise be thrown out, but since it’s organic and a great chance to reduce waste, Jackalo uses it to create new clothes. Pretty awesome, right?
Environment and Sustainability
Jackalo has an innovative buy-back program called Trade Up for their clothing. You can sell them back to Jackalo in exchange for a discount on new purchases when your kids are done with them, and they will either recycle them or resell them at discounted prices. Their goal is to eventually be able to use recycled clothes to make their own fabrics, to create a full circle production process.
Labor Practices
Jackalo has a strict Code of Conduct that requires suppliers to provide fair wages and ethical working conditions for their employees. They prohibit child labor as well as forced overtime and ensure that their employees are working under safe conditions.
7. Primary (*with a caveat)
If you’re looking for basics that are soft, comfortable, and long-lasting for your kids, then Primary is another great choice. Our family’s favorites from Primary are their rainbow pajamas and their packable down jackets (which are perfect for fall and spring in New England, and all but the coldest days in winter). They also fit well under a carseat harness-belt without having to loosen it much, which is a huge plus in the safety department.
I also want to mention that Primary’s customer service is excellent. We had an issue with a jacket zipper not working last winter and they quickly sent me a replacement.
*Note that, at least in our experience, Primary tends to run a size or two smaller than most other brands. Make sure to size up!
Materials
Primary is all about simplicity and comfort (and classic primary colors, thus their name), and they use quality materials to create clothes that are both durable and soft. They use 100% cotton in most of their products.
*Here’s the caveat about Primary: only certain Primary clothing items are made of organic cotton, mostly in the baby department. They have an Organic Shop where you can just shop for GOTS certified organic baby clothes such as totally adorable onesies, footies, pants, hats, and bibs. They color their clothes with non-toxic dyes that are safe for kids and the environment. Although Primary isn’t entirely organic (we hope they get there someday), they made the list because of their environmental sustainability practices:
Environment and Sustainability
Primary uses eco-friendly packaging materials, and their clothes are designed to last so that they don’t end up in landfills after a few wears. Some of their clothes, including jeans, swimwear, and puffer and fleece jackets, are at least in part made of recycled materials in more sustainable ways that reduce waste. Their clothing tags and shipping envelopes are all compostable as of 2021. And they also donate their overstock and sample items to schools and charities.
Labor Practices
Primary claims it prioritizes worker safety and pays fair wages, and that they work with their manufacturers to create a safe work environment. Furthermore, they provide paid vacation days and family leave.
