This is a great question and makes total sense to ask. Honestly, when it first came to buying sheets, I wasn’t thinking of looking for organic sheets for my kids. I figured the idea of organic sheets for kids was just a marketing ploy to deceive gullible parents.
But as I did my research and learned more about the world of organic textiles, I found out that when it comes to bedding for kids, opting for organic materials isn’t just about comfort — it’s even more about safety and environmental sustainability.
Organic sheets are made from natural fibers grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. This means there aren’t any harmful chemicals lingering in the fabric (included concerning toxins like PFAS). This reduces the risk of skin irritation and allergic reactions in sensitive children. My son has very sensitive skin that’s prone to eczema, so I’ve had to be careful with what kind of fabrics and bedding he’s exposed to since he was a newborn.
Organic farming practices are also more sustainable. They minimize harmful chemicals and support soil health. By opting for organic kids’ sheets instead of conventional ones, we can play a small but impactful role in protecting the environment and supporting organic farmers.

When it comes to selecting bedding for our children, it’s also important to be aware of harmful ingredients that may be hiding in conventional children’s sheets and bedding.

- Synthetic chemicals in fabric finishes: Some conventional sheets and bedding are treated with synthetic chemicals like formaldehyde, flame retardants, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Avoid any sheets marked “flame retardant,” because they can have toxic chemicals in them to make them resistant to fire. Similarly, avoid “wrinkle resistant” and “anti-static” claims, as these may have PTFE and other toxins in them. These chemicals can off-gas over time, releasing harmful fumes into the air that our children breathe while they sleep. Exposure to these toxins has been connected to respiratory issues, skin sensitivities and developmental problems in young children.
- Pesticide residues: Conventional cotton, one of the most commonly used materials in bedding, is often grown with synthetic pesticides and insecticides. Residues from these chemicals can remain in the fabric even after washing, putting children at risk of exposure to these toxins while they sleep.
- Synthetic dyes and colorants: Brightly colored bedding may look great, but some synthetic dyes and colorants used in conventional textiles contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals. These substances may leach out of the fabric over time and come into contact with your child’s skin.
- Microplastics: Polyester and other synthetic fibers used in bedding can shed tiny microplastic particles, which can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin. These microplastics have been found to accumulate in the body and may have adverse health effects over time. They’re also terrible for the environment.

When shopping for bedding, the best organic kids’ sheets and blankets will come with a stamp of approval from reputable organizations. Some certifications to keep an eye out for include:
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): GOTS is the leading standard for organic textiles across the world. It ensures the production process of the sheets, from harvesting the raw materials to the finished product, meets strict environmental and social criteria. Look for GOTS-certified organic sheets to guarantee that they are truly organic and responsibly made.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100: While not specifically designed for organic products, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies that textiles are safe and free from harmful substances.
- USDA Organic: The USDA Organic seal means that the sheets are made from certified organic materials and meet strict federal organic standards. While less common for textiles, the USDA Organic seal can be another indicator of organic authenticity.

For fun kid-friendly prints, I don’t think anyone beats Pottery Barn Kids. They make some of their sheet sets in Fair Trade certified factories from GOTS certified cotton, but you have to make sure to filter by those two categories if that’s what you’re looking for. They’re also more affordable than some of the other options on this list, probably because Pottery Barn is a much larger company that can afford to offer slightly lower prices.
I’ve purchased several organic sheet sets from PB kids and after a few washes, they’re nice and soft, and they last much longer than the sheets I’ve bought at Target. The prints can’t be beat for adorability. As long as you buy the organic ones, you can feel good about the material they’re made out of, too.
2. MakeMake Organics ($68)
MakeMake Organics is a leading brand in the world of sustainable eco-friendly bedding. Their kids’ sheets exemplify their commitment to quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
MakeMake Organics’ kids’ sheets are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton in a factory in India that supports fair labor practices and conditions. MakeMake Organics offers a bunch of whimsical designs, so you have some options for decorating your kiddo’s bedroom/nursery.
In addition to their GOTS certification, MakeMake Organics’ kids’ sheets are known for their softness and durability. Their 300-thread-count cotton sateen comes pre-washed, so it won’t shrink as much after you wash it.
On top of this, the dyes they use are non-toxic and eco-friendly. MakeMake is a great sustainable organic company to support!

Magnolia Organics is one of our favorite organic clothing and bedding companies. They have some of the best organic kids sheets (and they have them for grown-ups, too!) made out of 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, sourced from farms that follow strict standards for ecological sustainability and ethical labor practices. I love their earthy, pretty hues, like this gorgeous pink (above), which goes well with so many other colors.
Each sheet set from Magnolia Organics comes with super smooth sateen sheets and pillowcases that are breathable and temperature-regulating. I especially like their deep 15″ pockets with elastics that’ll stay on most mattresses securely. The dyes used for coloring their organic kids’ sheets are Azo-free dyes without any heavy metals, and they’re made in fair labor facilities.

Pact is a brand that resonates with me on multiple levels. I respect their commitment to sustainable and ethical practices, and I love the quality and comfort of their products. I stumbled upon Pact while searching for organic clothing in an effort to shop more sustainably, and I was drawn to their mission, which is to create organic, fair trade products that are good for people and the planet.
Pact’s sheets for both kids and adults are made from 100% GOTs certified organic cotton. They’re soft and feel lovely to sleep under, and you can get them in jersey, percale, or sateen in a variety of muted hues.
Pact’s sheets are made in a Fair Trade certified factory, so you can feel good about supporting them. Also (and this is awesome), their sheets are fully carbon neutral. Pact is certified by GOTS, Fair Trade USA, and SimpliZero.
5. Naturepedic ($179 for twin set)
Naturepedic is a well-respected brand known for high-quality organic bedding options for the whole family, including kids. Their organic kids’ sheets are no exception, offering parents a reliable and eco-friendly choice for their little one’s bedding needs. They are, however, on the pricier side.
Naturepedic’s organic kids’ sheets are made entirely from GOTS certified organic cotton, so you know they’re free from synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. They’re also made with a 400-count sateen weave, and they’re soft and gentle on children’s delicate skin.
The fabric is soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic, making it ideal for children with sensitive skin or allergies. My son has slept on a Naturepedic mattress with Naturepedic bedding for years, and it’s held up well over time.
Naturepedic’s organic kids’ sheet sets include a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase or two, available in a range of sizes to fit crib mattresses, toddler beds, and twin beds. One knock against Naturepedic is that they only offer white and off-white color called “natural.” That’s fine if you’re a minimalist, though kids who care about their sheet patterns may find it a bit on the boring side.

Dewberry Organics offers a few different designs to suit kids’ preferences and bedroom decor. They last a long time and are cozy and soft to sleep in. They source their organic cotton from farmers in Pakistan and partner with manufacturers in Portugal to create their bedding.

Although I initially worried that organic sheets were a marketing scam, I’ve since learned the myriad ways they support the environment and our kids’ health. After learning about GOTS certified companies, I realized that I’m doing more for the environment by supporting sustainable, quality companies than by buying conventional sheets. Plus, the organic sheets are softer and last longer, and I now don’t have to worry about the sheets off-gassing into my kids’ bedroom air as they sleep.
